NSW Government Announces New Food Safety Program For Small Dairy Processors

NSW Government Announces New Food Safety Program For Small Dairy Processors

The NSW Food Authority has published a new Food Safety Program, the 'Food Safety Program for Small Dairy Processors', to help small dairy processors meet their regulatory requirements under the Food Act 2003.

As with other generic food safety programs, business owners will need to adapt and modify the document to suit their business. The manual covers the purchase and receipt of raw milk through to the processing and distribution to retail outlets and contains guidance for the following products:

  • Milk
  • Dairy-based desserts and dips
  • Ice creams and edible ices
  • Yoghurt
  • Sour cream
  • Cheese
  • Cream
  • Butter
  • Dried milk powder

It's not designed for businesses that carry out more complex processes, such as infant formula, export registered facilities, unpasteurized goat’s milk, raw milk cheese production, or any other business carrying out more complex processes.

So if you're a small dairy processor or thinking about becoming one, this program is free and provides an easy-to-use plan that you can utilise to ensure food safety.
