FSANZ has initiated the process that could require food manufacturers to include 'added sugars' on food labels

FSANZ has begun the regulatory process that could lead to manufacturers being required to label 'added sugars' in the nutrition information panel of food labels in 2023.

A target consultation period of early September 2022 has been set, with public comment expected to be taken from mid-December 2022 to mid-February 2023.

If a review is not requested by stakeholders, the new requirement for added sugars to be included in the nutritional panel is scheduled to be set in late August 2023.

FSANZ has reported that there will be an opportunity to comment at a later date which will be publicly notified.
